Monday Morning Musing: This Is 60 Minutes

My heart and spirit are so full this morning after having all of our children and grandchildren together for the weekend. These are such absolute gifts of time and I try very hard not to fill them with expectation or obligation, but just with the sheer gift that it is to all be in the same space. I baked some favorite cookies and stocked Oma’s cookie jar. Delight could be heard in the kitchen and it’s hard to say whether that was the toddler or the grown kids, but it was delight nonetheless. We laughed and remembered and dozed a bit when the babies napped. The end of the weekend came far too early when we dropped our California girl off at the airport with big hugs and so many I Love You’s and plans for our next visit.
We were also robbed (drama, noted) of an hour together since this was the weekend of the spring time change. I must confess that I’m ready to see this springing forward and falling back end, but given that they are doing things like detaining and deporting and disappearing people who are in this country legally, and doing away with caring for the poor and elderly, I suppose this administration doesn’t have time for such trivia.
Statistics show that health problems are exacerbated and driving accidents increase the week following a time change. Our bodies just have a hard time making that adjustment.
The return of Daylight Savings Time means that we have ‘lost’ an hour. So, I’ve decided to fill that hour with some things that I no longer care to have in my day-to-day and send it on its way. Here’s what’s going away with my 60 minutes:
· 20 minutes of doom scrolling
· 10 minutes of not loving my body just the way it is
· 10 minutes of waiting in line
· 20 minutes of meetings that could be emails
See you in the fall, time-suckers! And when that time comes, as it always does, maybe that hour will return to me without all of that nonsense in it!
Tell me, dear ones, what’s in the 60 minutes you said farewell to on Sunday?
Time moves slowly, but passes quickly. -Alice Walker
